Millie Reads Pat the Bunny

"I thought of how every day each of us experiences a few little moments that have just a bit more resonance than other moments [...] And if we were to collect these small moments in a notebook
and save them over a period of months we would [...] realize that we have been having another life altogether; one we didn’t even know was going on inside us. And maybe this other life is more important than the one we think of as being real—this clunky day-to-day world of furniture and noise and metal.
So just maybe it is these small silent moments which are the true story-making events of our lives."

Millie and I sat down to read some stories. She really likes Pat the Bunny, which is a classic and one of the best books ever written. The girl's got good taste. After I recorded the video, I played it back for her to watch. She sat completely still, looking at her image on the screen and listening to my voice.

It's only two minutes in a span of our several hours together every day. But it's a precious slice of life, and one that I treasure with her. I know that it will be gone in the blink of an eye, and she'll be sprawled across her bed reading her own stories. And a few years after that, she will be in her own house, reading her children stories and tucking them into bed. I have never been so afraid of time until I had a child.

I try to find that balance of just enough Millie- I don't want to be a blogger who waves their kid in everyone's face. At the same time, I love her more than life, and I just can't leave out something so important to me. So thank you for letting me indulge at times- like today.
