The Second Time Around

Our anniversary? In a word- happy.

My sweet friend Kim offered to watch Millie for us, and one of the honorary bloggy sisters I mentioned in a previous post was amazing enough to give us a gift card to have a night out. We wouldn't have had a date without them, so I can't thank them enough.

I painted my nails and dug a pair of heels out of the closet, and found some lip stain while Sky polished his shoes. We hadn't been on a real date in so long, I'd forgotten what it was like, but the second we shut the car doors, I was excited!

We decided to see an early movie, and then head to dinner. With the help from a friend who works at the theater (and who shall remain nameless), we were able to walk past the velvet ropes and watch our movie for free. (Thank you again!) We got to snuggle and eat gummy bears and Hot Tamales, and all was good.

The way we choose where to eat was simple- after Googling menus of various restaurants in town, and being unimpressed with their food, their prices, or both, we clicked on an Italian restaurant called Minneci's- a place my parents happened to go to on one of their first dates, no less. The website began playing our song (if we have one)- a Sinatra song that Sky always sings to me. And just like that, it was settled.

The food was quite probably the best Italian I have ever had, and Sky and I also had a glass of wine and split some tiramisu (my favorite!). Little twinkle lights hung from the ceiling, and the room was quiet and serene. They played lots of Sinatra and Michael Buble, too, and we both loved that. The man who rang up our check was friendly, and I mentioned that we were there for a special occasion. "Happy anniversary! Do you live here in town?" I nodded. "What year are you celebrating?" he asked Sky. "It's our second," Sky said. After the drive home through the night mist, he chuckled and said, "Maybe I should have said it's our first happy anniversary." I had to smile because it's true.

There was a intense thunderstorm that night (yes, in January), and I couldn't help but think how lucky we were to have each other near. Maybe the first anniversary wasn't happy- but this? This night made up for it.

And we've got decades more to celebrate.

{P.S. Thank you for all your comments on Sky's Post. I kept relaying them to him as they would come in. I think I could speak for most girls when I say that the best gift is a love letter, and his just blew me away.}
