Goodwill Hunting

Browsing through the clothing racks at Goodwill is hardly a novel idea. I've seen lots of bloggers do it, and I've been shopping there ever since I can remember. I remember having some mixed feelings about it in high school- I would think to myself, "This vintage t-shirt is so cool because it's unique, but I hope no one knows I bought it for $1.99 at Goodwill."

Nowadays? I would wear a t-shirt proclaiming "I BOUGHT THIS FOR $1.99 AT GOODWILL!" I don't care! I'm proud of any way I can save money, and usually just wonder how people are able to stomach paying full price for anything.

Our town's Goodwill used to be located quite literally next door to my high school. It was small, cramped, and full of 80s prom dresses (which always entertained me). But in the past year, it moved into a much larger space, which means more things to browse and more room to breathe. I was finally able to visit, and I'm pretty pleased with the results.

(I apologize for the horrible photos.)

For just a little over $20.00, we were able to buy five shirts for me, two shirts for Sky, and an outfit for Millie. Just one of these things alone would have cost $20.00!

Green sweater- Forever Twenty One
Yellow plaid shirt- Mossimo
Grey tunic sweater- Free People
Blue striped sweater- Old Navy
Red loose tee- American Eagle

Top plaid shirt- Basic Editions
Bottom plaid shirt- Levi's
Long sleeve romper- Carter's

The only downside to Goodwill shopping? It makes me wish summer would get here quickly, because garage sale season is the best shopping season!

Sometimes I wish I were more conventionally height'd so I could enjoy Goodwill in its entire capacity. But until tall people start parting from their goods (Lord knows, I hoard my Tall items), I get to scrounge Gap.com for their 30% off sales in order to score those 2 extra inches of sleeve and torso length...

Although I was just thinking the other day, I really should hit up the dress section as I can have an 8 or a 10 alteredin the torso and it's the perfect size for someone with an inseam of 89 inches, and a torso of 45....

I see a mission in my future... :D Thanks!

My mom is at that Goodwill ALL the time. It's usually the main thing she wants to do when I visit.

I've never been able to find things at Goodwill in CA. There are TONS of thrift stores here in NC but have yet to find the time to go into them since I'm on a NO buying clothes until after summer strike. I have so many clothes as does Em so I'm trying to use what I have.

What great finds! I love the shirts! I haven't been to a Goodwill in a long time because my kids don't have the patience to wait while I look. But I do LOVE to shop the consignment stores near us for the kids clothes! Such great buys and I love the challenge :) I can't stand to pay full-price for anything anymore either. I'll happily let other people pay full-price for me, and then I'll buy it for a few dollars later :)
And please, summer, hurry up!!

A girl after my own heart! I was a thrift-store junkie in high school (and college, and now....) as well and you can really find some great stuff! Glad you got a good haul! :)

ah! that makes me so excited.
it's rare, sooooo rare that i decide to spend more than $10 on a single item....never, ever. plus, i hardly go shopping anyhow.
i need to visit a goodwill sometime. it's been ages since i've been there, and i need a few more basic shirts. $8-15 doesn't sit well :P

I've never been able to find things at Goodwill, granted I've only been there a handful of times and that was back in high school. Maybe I'll give a try soon and see how it goes haha

Oh Erika, I am loving your finds, especially that yellow plaid-ish one, so super cute and I can see every single one of those on you! Sounds like you guys have yourselves an awesome Goodwill, a lot of times it's location location location! yay!

You scored! I wish the second hand stores on the island were nice... they are mostly dingy or over-priced =(

Oh my husband would be so proud of you!! lol I swear when we got married and I was busy packing up our things, every other comment from BE was, "hey! you know, I got that shirt at Goodwill". Just today we were out for a run and he asked me if I liked his jacket...sure enough, Goodwill. haha!! I had a college roommate who was a pro at shopping places like that and TJ Maxx, she always came home with the cutest things!! But she confessed it took some looking for all the good finds. I agree with Skinnie - you scored!

I feel your pain. I'm 5'10, but for some reason I'm (usually) ok with pants, but torso I often find that shirts and tops feel too short - half the time I end up wearing mini-dresses as tops :P
