Mornings

“Thoughts are slow and deep and golden in the morning.”

I need mornings to begin softly. I need an easiness that lets me rest a little longer while people are rushing to work and the sun is insisting we rush too. I need those first sips of coffee that reassure me the day will unravel in a gentle way.

The break of day is a lovely time to be an underachiever. A time to sit with my thoughts out of focus until they gradually form into clarity. A time to relish those first kisses from a bedhead-ed baby in a bathrobe- "just a little kiss, not a big kiss." A time to shirk responsibility and sink into couch, read a few blogs, or just be still.

I could do nothing at all today or five hundred things. Both thoughts are comforting and full of hope when they're seen through the clean, early light.

I have never called myself a morning person. But maybe I should. New things are always beautiful.

I never used to be a morning person until Kyle and I got married. Love a quiet morning with a cup of tea. :) Have a great day friend!

What a beautiful idea - and your writing, as always, is so very lovely. I'm not a morning person either but the way you describe it, as a new thing, makes me almost change my mind...

Until my alarm goes off at 5am. :)

I found a similar solace recently. I get up an hour or more earlier than I used to and just sit, read, sip coffee and relax. Then I'm ready to start my day, but with more energy and a better attitude than when I wake up at the last possible minute and frantically run around starting my day!

I need my mornings to be this way, too. Usually they are. Today I woke up late, didn't get my coffee and/or solace and the rest of my day has been thrown off. Maybe naptime will turn it around ;) Have a great Tuesday!

I wish I could be this person. I'm the lady who wakes up and is out the door to the gym within twenty minutes... at 5am. I do get a little bit of me time when I get back before Brendan gets home from PT to spend with my coffee and my pup, so maybe that counts :)

Beautifully said. Those are "mental hygiene" moments! May you and all your readers have a blessed and gentle morning - at least every now and then.

This is perfect. These are the exact reasons I love the morning :)
