Circumstance

After work, my dad and I met at the Courier Cafe which is one of many imagined Saturday activities for my new digs. I was even more enthralled than usual with the gigantic cash register, the old fashioned gumball machine, and the red airplane fans spinning loudly by the door. After dinner, we walked down Main Street and up again. I was thrilled to discover I have several cafes, bakeries, and bars nearby. The best part is a used bookstore close to the large theater overhang. I can't wait to claim all this Urbana territory.

I feel very old tonight- while my dad was out of the house at a poker game, I sat at home watching Sex and the City clips on You Tube to watch Carrie scenes (especially the Hubbel part), playing them between songs by The Fray to decide if I like the band or not (like the piano...jury is still out on the whole concept though). I browsed Craigslist, having a new respect for it for finding my apartment for me. In between my search for a perfect old bike with a basket in front, furniture for the apartment, and my hope for garage sales (even though I'm told it will snow), I came across a category called "Missed Connections". This intrigues me- it seems really old-fashioned in some ways, and kind of sad. Even though some of them were downright scary, there were a few that were so sweetly serendipitous that I had to share them:

You sit more or less across from me every class. I think you're incredibly pretty. Every now and then I think we make eye contact, and I can't tell if you're just gazing from overwhelming boredom or if you're looking at me. I just wanted to say that you make those classes much easier to bear.

Every morning I see you walking your two dogs past the graduate school housing where I live. You're beautiful. You must be intelligent too since you're always studying. I would love to take you to dinner.

I came today to pick a document from you, but you couldn't find it because it was not ready yet.
I am not sure whether you will see this or not, but I just wanted to let you know that you are gorgeous and very kind. Please get back to me if you are interested in meeting for coffee or more.

Saw you around 12:30 last night waiting for the bus at the shelter by Illini Union. You had dark hair and were wearing high heels. You were really cold and spinning around in circles to stay warm. Too bad I didn't have a big coat or hat to lend you. Thought you were very cute. Sorry, I don't have a better description, I didn't think I'd actually write one of these. I was wearing jeans and a white jacket. I should have struck up a conversation.

Maybe they're all the same guy, but even so, the storylines are nice. They are all the beginning of a chick flick, and the endings will never be revealed. It's funny to think about what will happen to these un-couples.

Another snippet, this from The Telegraph in London:"The longer a man's gaze rests on a woman when they meet for the first time, the more interested he is. If it last just four seconds, he may not be all that impressed. But if it breaks the 8.2 second barrier, he could already be in love they say."
Connect this statistic with the seekers above, and you could just have a happily ever after.

Downtown Urbana is a great place to live. Iv been in the 'hood for over a year and have loved it(not the marching band at 7am!). I think when May gets here you will love the Farmers Market every saturday morning. It is by far my favorite thing about living in Urbana!!
