Done With What We've Lost

"we're glad for what we've got
done with what we've lost
our whole lives laid out
right in front of us"
-Existentialism on Prom Night by Straylight Run

This song link-up with Goodnight Moon is more the type of song I would listen to in high school. There's a reason for it, though. The regimental ball is Saturday. I'm not happy about it for the reasons you think.

You see, I may joke about it being our prom. I may be excited about my beautiful gown, my lovely updo, or a chance to see my husband in his dress uniform. But really, if only in my own heart, it's a kind of official start over. It's something new.

I feel, in some small way, that Saturday is a make-up day. A new wedding. And maybe the Strong Bonds Army marriage retreat we'll be attending a couple weeks from now will be a makeshift honeymoon. We didn't get a honeymoon the first time around, but I feel so deeply about wanting to invest in our relationship this time. I want hope to spring up in our relationship just like the flowers beginning to blossom this time of year.

I look forward to taking photos with bright flashes in the dim ballroom light. I long for the moments before, when I'm putting on mascara as Sky straightens his bow tie. I'm excited for the breathless laughs, the attempts at a slow dance, and the introductions and handshakes. It's not a girly dream of a fancy party like so many people think, though.

It's a wish for beginnings.

Full lyrics:
"Existentialism On Prom Night" by Straylight Run
 When the sun came up,
We were sleeping in,
Sunk inside our blankets,
Sprawled across the bed,
And we were dreaming.

There are moments when,
When I know it and
The world revolves around us.
And we're keeping it,
Keep it all going,
This delicate balance,
Vulnerable all knowing.

Sing like you think no one's listening,
You would kill for this,
Just a little bit,
Just a little bit,
You would (2 times)

Sing me something soft,
Sad and delicate,
Or loud and out of key,
Sing me anything.
We're glad for what we've got,
Done with what we've lost
Our whole lives laid out right in front of us.

Sing like you think no one's listening,
You would kill for this,
Just a little bit,
Just a little bit,
You would (2 times)
Sing me something soft,
Sad and delicate,
Or loud and out of key,
Sing me anything.

I love the way you are framing this weekend. OccDoc and I did a engagement retreat a few years ago and it was fantastic. We're headed to a marriage retreat in a couple of weeks, too. I'm right there with you know that a marriage is something you need to take the time and effort to invest in. I hope this weekend is the beginning you're looking for.

Awesome choice - and I think a lot of us are praying for new beginnings these days!

I think I'm getting a new beginning of my own, but am not ready to blog about it yet. SOON, though, I promise.

Have fun this weekend!
