What a Headache

"For after all, the best thing one can do when it is raining is let it rain."

It's been a weird 24 hours.

The weather has been temperamental and angry lately. A week ago tonight, a tornado was spotted in Chambana. My dad, Millie, and I happened to be out running errands when it hit. I tend to feel a bit anxious despite my Midwestern upbringing. He, older, wiser, and a firefighter, was not phased. We drove home between layers of green sky and pelting rain, and all was calm by the time we arrived at my apartment. After all the springs and summers of running to the basement as the TV shouted warnings of funnel clouds, I should be used to all this by now. I guess it's that I never know what will happen. I don't want to be too sure of myself with something so unpredictable. But it's awfully nice when someone is sure for me.

Then, there's the headaches. I'm migraine prone as it is, thanks to genetics. Add the weather into the mix, and you have...the perfect storm (groan). The past week, I've been more headache-y than I have been pain free, and the past day has been particularly rough. I woke in the middle of the night last night, feeling the room spin around and the pain at its peak. I swore I would go to the emergency room in the morning. I had a couple good hours before it struck again, and I went in for a injection that was supposed to help. It didn't. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow to see what can be done. (Move out of tornado alley, perhaps?)

And finally, Sky has been affected by the weather, too. He got a call from his sergeant tonight, telling him to pack up and get to his armory. After gathering all his belongings and pulling on his uniform, he was ready to walk out the door when they called him back and said to stay home on standby. And just a couple hours later, another call, telling him to report in the morning. He'll be lugging sandbags, checking on people in their flooded houses, etc. While I'm not happy to be without him (nor am I happy about the flooding), we are both thankful that there is an extra opportunity for him to get paid. We need all the help we can get right now.

It's supposed to rain the next 4 out of 5 days here in Illinois, and probably the rest of the country as well. And while most of me is saying, "rain, rain, go away", I am trying to be patient and wait for the sun.

P.S. Two milspouse blogging matters. One, you absolutely must go read this woman's poetry. She is so good, it's crazy. Definitely one of my new favorite blogs to follow. Two, if you haven't yet voted for the Best Milspouse Blogger, go do it now!

sorry for the headaches! I grew up in the midwest, and know what you're talking about with the weather. Living in Vermont has been a really nice change of pace! I voted for your blog! Is it something where you can revote every day or just once?

I'm sorry about your headaches. My sister and my aunt are prone to terrible migraines, so I have watched them suffer with them my whole life. Crazy. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
I live in the Midwest (Missouri) in a double wide trailer so I know how scary tornadoes can be! I am sorry for all of the terrible weather you've been getting. I'm sure Missouri is due for her dose anytime now. Looks like I'll be timing my route to the nearest road ditch :)

*big hug*

We went camping about 10 miles from a tornado last weekend. It was pretty awesome. ;) My hubby's been waiting for a call to throw sandbags but no word yet.

I've never had to deal with tornadoes before. Hurricanes and earthquakes, yes, but I would seriously not know what to do during a tornado. I've never had a basement. You are such a strong and patient woman, I hope you start to feel better! Stay safe <3
