DIY: Infinity Scarf from a T-Shirt

Photobucket

When scarves became the big thing in style, I immediately jumped on the bandwagon. I love everything cozy and wintery- give me gloves and sweaters over cut-offs and bikinis any day. This craft transformed my summery item into something perfect for cold weather. After searching for something other than those stringy t-shirt scarves, I found one that looked comfy and cute.

What I liked most about this was the time- I could be walking out the door, decide I'd like a scarf to go with my outfit that day, and make one in about 30 seconds. Easy. Oh, and hello no sewing!

Plus, you need exactly two items- a t-shirt (XL or larger- mine was XXL) that has at least a little stretch to it, and a pair of scissors. The old t-shirt I used was a cotton/polyester/rayon blend, and I think it's perfect. Old t-shirts are generally more worn and comfortable, but you could use a clearance rack one from anywhere, too.

If you're a local, you might recognize this. :)
All you need to do was lay the shirt out and cut a straight line across it, going right under the arms. This is what  you'll have leftover when you're done:

The final step is to simply stretch the fabric as much as you like, and loop it around your neck once or twice.

I decided to use a bit more of the leftover fabric, and cut out the neck to make a headband. Just measure it to the desired length and tie a knot. Done!

I love scarves, I love gray, and I know I'll be wearing this everywhere. It's great when you have something new in your closet to wear- but even better when it's free!

P.S. Thanks to Shannon for featuring this on her blog today!

So cute! I may be digging into my husband's t-shirt stash before he comes home... I know he has some old t-shirts that he won't notice being gone, and he'll have to appreciate the new accessories to my wardrobe that didn't cost anything! Thanks for sharing!!

How clever!! This is a great idea, and free is even better. What a great way to use t-shirts that might otherwise be wasted. Even a paint splatter or a small hole won't be noticed! You look darling, by the way!
