Christmas Giveaway Day 12: Handmade Stocking from Heavenly Roost Farm

null

Today's giveaway is brought to you by...my mama!

My mother is one amazing lady, and she cooks, bakes, and sews like nobody's business. She's finally opened up shop on Etsy at Heavenly Roost Farm, and I'm very excited that other people can experience her homemade goodies, too. When she stayed with me during the week after Millie was born, I think I ate her apricot jam for breakfast, lunch, and dinner- it was that delicious.

Here is a little bit about the woman behind Heavenly Roost Farm

I'm just an old-fashioned farmer and housewife at heart.  As the world seems to move faster and faster, I treasure more and more the old things and especially handmade things that took a lot of precious time to create.  Giving time to someone is a big part of loving, so handmade items seem to represent love to me.  In my farmhouse, I love to sew, quilt, cook, can and preserve, craft wines and beers, crochet, bake, garden, help my husband manage our little vineyard, fruit trees and berries, raise turkeys, chickens and ducks, play a little unskilled piano, read, home school my great  16-year-old son, chase the dogs, applaud my husband's softball team, volunteer, and occasionally clean.  I am never bored!  I opened the Etsy shop at the urging of my wonderful daughter, Erika, who has some of that "old-fashioned" blood in her veins, too.

For today's giveaway, Heavenly Roost Farm shop is giving one winner the beautiful handmade stocking above! The description reads: I love old linens and antique or vintage quilts! They are so homey and sweet. I found pieces of a very old quilt, and though I'm not sure why the quilt was cut apart, I couldn't bear to see it destroyed or sent to a landfill. The original hand-quilted quilt was probably made by a woman who used scraps of feedbags and clothing to create a utility quilt for warmth, rather than artistic beauty. However, I think it's still beautiful and full of history. To protect the aged cloth, I stitched on some nearly transparent tulle, which doesn't take away even a smidgen from the original quilt, to create this rustic stocking to adorn a mantle or any area of your house. This unlined stocking measures about 15-1/2 inches in length, including the hanger. The reverse side is also from the same quilt, so it can be turned to face either direction. The original quilter would surely be proud to know her quilt is loved in a new home.

I added her to my circle (of 1) and saw she has turkeys of unusual size. I should send her a photo of my unusually large rabbit, Dennis.
