The Question

What greater thing is there for two human souls that to feel that they are joined...
to strengthen each other... to be at one with each other in silent unspeakable memories.
~ George Eliot

So, unless you know me in 'real life', you have probably assumed that I was engaged, considering I am getting married in two weeks. I suppose I was technically, but somehow Sky and I had talked and decided and planned without an official engagement. Being a girl, I knew I still needed that moment-the big, romantic question and the kisses afterwards. So I brought it up from time to time.

But here we were, two weeks before the wedding. I realized that if he were going to ask me, he would have done it by now. I tried not to think about it, but it still nagged me a little. I wanted to have that with him.

We were at his mother's house in Flora, and had dropped off his kids after spending the week with him. I shut the door behind me and stepped out into the below-zero air. As I turned around, he caught me on the sidewalk and gave me a kiss. As we walked to the car, another kiss. It was so cold that I asked him, "What are you doing?" He had a goofy grin on his face, and said, "I love you." I told him I loved him, too. But as I got to the passenger side door, I saw something that made me turn around, and almost screamed when I saw that he was right behind me. "You scared me!," I laughed.

And then...in the freezing cold, on the curb of the house on a quiet Flora street, Sky knelt down and held both my hands in his. He told me that he wanted to ask me here since it was the first place he wanted to marry me- the night we met, I had pulled up to that curb and saw him standing on the porch. And then he asked me the question that I had waited to hear. We had our after-proposal kisses, and drove home a little bit warmer.

Just like everything else in our relationship, this doesn't fall into the timeline quite correctly. But in the end, it was just a formality I craved, and I loved it. Because I think we both knew a long time ago- and maybe we really did know on that curb the first night I saw his face.

I love your writing style.
It's just...put so well.
My last post was so jumbled, so flawed, I'm soaking your posts in:)

Mine was the same. We planned our wedding states apart and he "asked" me with no ring 23 hours before we were married and 2 weeks after we decided.
