Millie and I were about to leave the store when the skies opened up and a heavy rain began to fall. We sat near the entrance, people watching and keeping an eye on the weather. When the drops began to thin, the two of us started towards the car.
But suddenly and unexpectedly, there was a huge downpour. I started running with the shopping cart, thinking about how my hair would be instantly curly and my makeup would be smudged.
And Millie began laughing. She giggled hysterically, lifting her face up to the rain and welcoming it. Her fingers spread out as she tried to catch the raindrops in her hands. The faster I raced through the parking lot, the more she laughed. I couldn't help but laugh, too.
We looked like downed rats when we finally got home, but it didn't matter. Her laughter always puts things in perspective. She turns every moment into an adventure.
So, as you'd probably expect, my song linkup with Goodnight Moon today is a song about rain. Kind of bluesy in a Billie Holiday sort of way...
California Rain lyrics by Madeleine Peyroux
California rain is fallin'
I can hear the summer callin'Far away, far away
A song that's fadin'
Put me on a plane tomorrow
I'll try to run from all my sorrow
Far away, far away
From endless waitin'
It's so cold here without the sun
I'm so sad here far away from everyone
What a fool to be ambitious
Moving here with all of my wishes
Far away, far away
From where my heart is
Shut the phone off and pack my bags
No more boys who boast and brag
Far away, far away
Where I belong
I'm so sorry for some things I've done
I'll be lonely till I can see my only one
California rain keeps fallin'
I can hear that old love callin'
Far away, far away
Where I started
I'm goin' back, back where I belong
Gonna catch a train
Gotta get back where I belong
Get back

Oooh, I like this post. The song is very complimentary. I've had similar situations with my son, too. Makes me want to walk face first into storms every time I see them now, just to see the excitement on my little's face. :) I've never heard your song before. I loved it.
Oh, and I love the picture, too. :)
Aww I absolutely love times like this, children see things so differently than most of us, their vision isn't tainted with the 'what if's' etc...through their eyes it is joyful, innocent and it really is just the little things...
Cute post and the song is perfect! :) Love it!
I really like the song-thanks for sharing.

:D This put the biggest smile on my face! I love the joy that little ones can bring. You are so lucky to have such a beautiful, bright eyed baby.
And this song is wonderful! It puts me at such ease. GOSH!! I wish I didn't lose my ipod!! I really need to download some of these songs you post.
OH and as I write this, your playlist went to the next song... Dashboard. It made me giggle thinking about last weeks post. Haha.
I love Billie Holiday and so this song spoke to me in a quiet way. As soon as the song came on my 3 year old sauntered up to me, threw himself into my arms and asked me to dance with him. We danced around the living room until Dashboard Confessional came on. Thanks for helping to make a cute little moment :-)

Beautiful! I love it! The song is amazing and your story is awesome. Isn't it great how the laughter of our babies/children really does put life and all it's woes into perspective?
Have a great weekend!
