Nights Like This

"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves,
like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue [...]
the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually,
without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer." — Rainer Maria Rilke

I spent the evening under a blanket, holding a blue icepack to my head. I felt the pain of my migraine being replaced by the seasick feeling of my headache medicine. I tried closing my eyes to make the room stop spinning.

Sky got home from work a little later that night. I heard him close the front door, and ask "What's wrong?" as he hung up his coat. "Headache," I said, as I seem to say so many nights. He sighed.

I heard him rustling around the kitchen, and he came back with a basket of laundry. He began folding it as we watched a show before bed, even though he had just worked a full day and was tired. And in that moment, I fell in love a little bit more.

It's these things marriage is made of, the small gestures that have more weight than any grand proposals or romantic getaways. We're not there yet- we haven't learned all we need to learn in this relationship together- but I think the journey is getting more beautiful every day.

So sweet. My husband does little things like that that make me go, "Aw, I totally remember why I picked YOU!" and usually he has no idea that he's making me swoon. :)

Y'all look so great in that photo!

Yes! I would love to take those headaches away, but it's wonderful how God uses those rotten things for good - when we let Him. Treasuring our spouses is what can make marriage the sweetest. You two are my heroes.

Those simple little moments are the best. When you don't need big fanfares to feel how deep the love runs. Such a sweet post! And love the picture of the two of you!

awww.
seriously, that is so sweet.
i can't imagine only placing value on the bigger, shinier-seeming things and times. the tiny, seemingly ordinary times are the truly precious ones, where we choose to love and care through it all and pick up where the other leaves off. <3
